Lux Style Awards 2012

Lux Style Awards 2012

Following are the winners and my two cents about each:

Best TV Serial (Satellite): Mera Saaein (ARY Digital)

With the roller coaster ride that this serial was, from the start to the finish, along with top notch acting and direction, I have to say the award was very well-deserved. Babar Javed and co. gave us all the right ingredients here from suspense and thrill to a strong script, intriguing characters and twists that kept us hooked till the very end. Amongst the ones nominated, this was probably the only one I watched from the beginning to the very end.

Best TV Actor (Satellite): Faisal Qureshi – Roag (ARY Digital)

Faisal Qureshi strikes again! This time, his award was for his goosebumps-inducing performance in Roag. I was hard pressed to choose between him and Fahd Mustafa in Mastana Mahi, though Noman Ejaz in Mera Saaein probably towered over the entire list. I have no idea how the viewers decided between these three (and of course, the very popular Ali Safina aka Taaka in the Baraat series). My vote had gone to Fahad Mustafa, but I still feel this award went to the right person in the end.

Best TV Actress (Satellite): Savera Nadeem – Qaid-e-Tanhai (Hum TV)

If you honestly ask me, I was not inclined towards voting for even one of the nominees – almost all their roles were in the “rona dhona” category . Call me a skeptic but I would have nominated Aamina Sheikh for her excellent performance as Sana Hamdani in Uraan, Aisha Khan for Tum Ho Kay Chup, Sakina Samo for Mastana Mahi, and Sunita Marshall for Mera Saaein. Among the current nominees, Savera was probably the only strong link. Sorry to all Qaid-e-Tanhai fans, but that drama serial never clicked with me.

Best TV Director (All Channels): Sarmad Khoosat – Pani Jaisa Pyar (Hum TV)

This was a very tough category. With Adnan Ahmed for Mera Naseeb and Yasir Nawaz for Uraan, both of which were excellently done, it was very hard to pick any favourite. But with Jalpari, Humsafar AND Pani Jaisa Pyar, one can easily say Sarmad Khoosat has given us the most serials last year with the “wow factor”!

Best TV Writer (All Channels): Samira Fazal – Mera Naseeb (Hum TV)

Wow, what to say? Congratulations Samira ji! It was VERY tough (again), especially with Umera Ahmed’s nomination for Uraan.

Overall

Congratulations to all the winners from DramaPakistani.net – for once, it is lovely to be able to write that most of the awards were spot on and went to those who truly deserved them. I was looking at my last year’s picks for this year’s winners and interestingly, though I got the names of two individuals right, I didn’t get their drama serials right.

There was a huge outcry regarding Humsafar not being nominated this year, but one can easily predict a clean sweep of Humsafar in next year’s Lux Style Awards, though Durre-Shehwar, Shehr-e-Zaat, Bilqees Kaur, and quite a few other mega serials may give the panel (who selects the nominees) an extremely tough time. Best of luck to them!

So who did you vote for? And were you satisfied with the winners?
